Don’t you just hate it when the links in your blog posts become broken?

If you are like me and you have more than a few blogs, or in my case, hundreds of blogs, you can appreciate that there is a tool to help you clean up and unlink (or fix) all those broken links that accumulate over time.

Broken Link Checker will check your posts, comments and other content for broken links and missing images, and notify you if any are found.

It’s hard enough to keep our blogs fresh and current to keep Google happy, than to have to worry that old broken links that are no longer working are sending signals that our sites are not well kept or abandoned.

It’s especially important to the Blogging Underground network of blogs to keep our blogs as fresh and clean as possible. The blogs have had many thousands of articles posted in our blogs over the past few years and it’s only natural that links in the posts go bad.

While it may be natural – Google is always looking for signs that a website is stale and un-managed – so one of the ways I make sure the blogs are not filled with outdated and broken links is by using this easy to use plugin.

Broken Link Checker installs in any WordPress blog and will regularly check for broken links and send an email notification with the results.

Since it’s possible that some links may just be temporarily out of service – I always re-scan the links to make sure they haven’t come back before I “unlink” them.

That’s just one of the many things I do to make sure the Blogging Underground network of blogs provide the greatest value to our members who post in them.

After all – our goal is to get the maximum link juice from our blog posts – and keeping the blogs fresh and tasty ensures Google will continue loving them.

Broken Link Checker is a major time saver! I highly recommend getting this free plugin!

If you’re a webmaster and you have a WordPress blog or two (or 20!) you most certainly have experience with comment spam. It sucks, right. Don’t worry – it’s not hopeless – I have a couple of solutions I think you’ll like!

Turning comments off is a bad solution.

Hey – we need to keep comments open so there are some social signals being sent on our blogs, but geez the people who are spamming comments are ruthless (and stupid).

They just keep hammering away and problems occur. Fortunately I found 2 really simple but effective solutions for out of control comments on WordPress blogs that you must take a look at if you want to save time and keep your sanity.

1. Delete Comments By Status – Delete all comments by selecting the comment status from your WordPress admin.

This free Delete Comments By Status plugin is so simple and effective it makes me feel warm all over!

Simply install it and never again have to waste time deleting thousands of comments 10 or 20 at a time (repetitive stress anyone?).

Now all you do is select Delete pending comments and boom they are suddenly all gone!

I wish I would have found this earlier. I’ve wasted more than my share of time deleting comments page after page.

2. Math Comment Spam Protection – Asks the visitor making the comment to answer a simple math question. This is intended to prove that the visitor is a human being and not a spam robot. Example of such question: What is the sum of 2 and 9?

You need Math Comment Spam Protection to make sure you don’t get as much comment spam in the first place. Requiring spammers to do math cuts the spam submitted drastically.

Now the only caveat is that some blogs won’t work properly. I am pretty sure it is the themes and there might be a fix -but I haven’t figured that one out yet.

If you run across a solution for stubborn blogs where you get it to work – please let me know!

That said it works on about 80% of the blogs I install it on.

So – that should save you some time waging war against those stupid comment spammers polluting the internet with garbage.

Oh – and I do have a request – what is a good Akismet alternative?

We need something like it that is simple and blocks out the spam in the first place but doesn’t have a scheme to get us to pay for using the plugin. I am sick and tired of playing games to get it to work and don’t way to pay to use Aksimet. There must be something else… right?

OK – so what is this Backlink Energizer thing?

Hey, I wanted to tell you about this cool WordPress Plugin I just ran into called Backlink Energizer and in a nutshell what it does is help you get all of those weak and wimpy Web 2.0 and crappy social media backlinks to get indexed by Google.

Please do not confuse your powerful backlinks in the Blogging Underground “announcement blogs”, as those posts generally get indexed fast and will stick, but rather I am referring to those other backlinks you may be trying to get with social media sites, profiles, comments and such.

Those wimpy social links generally DO NOT STICK and in many cases NEVER even get indexed.

SO – I highly suggest you look at the Backlinks Energizer WP Plugin as it cleverly helps you get those pages with your backlinks indexed through the power of your WordPress blogs.

WARNING: Now I need to tell you to REMEMBER that your BU BACKLINKS are NOT the same as those other WORTHLESS BACKLINKS they’re talking about at the Backlinks Energizer page – our links kick butt – please do not confuse them with the other wimpy links out there!

OK – just wanted to be clear on that as our BU blog links are like magic – but if you’re doing OTHER links you need an insurance policy and a plan to make sure and get those links indexed!

OK – so please have a look at the Backlinks WP Plugin if that sounds appealing to you!
